  • 2020: The Year the Rat Folks Take Over!

Chinese zodiac, Year of the Rat 2020

This year, the Chinese zodiac celebrates the year of the Rat, which marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year. Based on the Chinese zodiac folklore, years ago there was a competition held by the Jade Emperor said to decide the 12 zodiac animals as he wanted them to be his guards. At the time of the race, the witty Rat asked the ox to the take him for a ride across the river but before they made it to the finish line together, the Rat took a leap and became the first to finish and thus the first zodiac animal. Due to the fact that there are 12 zodiac signs, we get to celebrate the Rat year every 12 years!

In the Chinese zodiac, the animals are categorized in order of their arrival to the finish line. Starting with the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and finally the Pig.
